O.R.B. Toronto
History ![]()
"It can't
be done. They'll never allow it in Toronto."
That is what
people told the leaders of Ontario Roaming Bares when they needed an indoor
pool in Toronto to give club members a naturist activity within the city and
accessible by public transit.
The Ontario
Roaming Bares – Toronto Club was founded in 1993, began its pool search in 1994
and in the spring of 1995 a pool manager in the west end of Metro Toronto
indicated she was prepared to rent her pool to O.R.B. Toronto. Swimming pool
management preferred club members and guests attend the Swim Nights

Success
continues to build. Since 1996, Swim Nights are now scheduled 14 to 16 times a
year. Other varied activities are provided to round out each month’s activity
list.
A reservation
policy is in effect to ensure O.R.B. Toronto organizers know the names of
members and guests expected for events. This can be a big step for many
"new-to-naturism" callers. The callers really appreciate a chance to
speak in advance with an experienced naturist.
WORLD NATURISM HISTORY

Being natural in the natural outdoors
Freikörperkultur
(Free body culture) originated in Germany which first came onto the scene at
the beginning of the present century. The Victorian age with their stiff
regulations (perhaps it could be said ‘body negative attitudes), and very
restrictive clothing created a need for lightness, air, and a more natural
style of living. Today, it is satisfying to see that naturist groups are active
in most of the countries around the world. People from all walks of life and
lifestyles now prefer to be nude when appropriate and enjoy life as meant to
be. Naturists today enjoy the lifestyle to its fullest with many not afraid to
discuss it with friends and others.

NATURISM IN CANADA
Social nudism
first appeared in Canada about 1939 in both British Co1umbia and Ontario.
The Van Tan
Club was the first club formed on a site overlooking Vancouver. Nor haven,
about ten miles east of North Bay opened in 1948.
Naturism in
Canada was started by mostly immigrants from Europe. After the war the spread
of Naturism in Canada steadily increased.
To meet the
needs of Canadian naturists, the Canadian Sunbathing Association (CSA) was
formed in 1948.
In 1978 the
Fédération Québécoise de Naturisme (FQN) was founded in Québec, and in 1986 the
Federation of Canadian Naturists (FCN) was founded in Ontario.

Today the
terms Naturist and Nudist in used interchangeably as they both are the same.
A 1999
Canadian survey found that about 36% of Ontarians are comfortable to go about
their home nude or sleep nude. These households could be considered home
nudists. It is quite common for adults and children to enjoy social and
recreational nudist activities.
LIFESTYLE BENEFITS
Some general
benefits of a nudist lifestyle:
-
Lower laundry/apparel
costs
-
Realizing you don’t
have to match the ‘perfect body’ syndrome to be happy
-
Children tend to be
more self confident when they are not taught to regard their or other’s bodies
as something to be embarrassed and ashamed about
-
Nudists usually have
less stress in their lives
-
Less packing for
camping and holiday trips
-

Family enjoying a day out nude
In Ontario
alone there are now 12 landed clubs that cater to nude recreation ranging from
wilderness settings to a first class resort atmosphere. The demand for nude
recreation and travel opportunities is a steadily growing segment of the
tourist industry.
